Documentation

Packaging documentation is a major challenge for a majority of companies. Documentation of packaging needs to be established to ensure what is requested is fulfilled. All too often many companies are in a time crunch and documentation is not provided. The only concern is meeting customer demands.

An excellent illustration of the need for documentation is a request for a closure for a container. A client is developing a new product to be in production in the next month. To accommodate the product a closure is essential. The company believes it can use the same closure from a previous product. When it is time for producing the new product, the closure procured does not work! The company is in a frantic and asks their supplier what closure was provided. The supplier replies back it was the standard closure they always give.

If the company provided the appropriate documentation, the company would receive the correct closure needed. By providing documentation, packaging items can be accounted for and prevent unnecessary challenges.

Quality

Quality educated and eager to solve your packaging concerns

Packaging quality is a conundrum for most companies. Some companies perceive packaging as a commodity item and pay no attention to quality. Other companies value packaging as an essential part of the product and place packaging quality in the highest regards. This occurs because packaging is everywhere! Some companies’ standards of quality are composed of detailed programs while others have none.

Quality is an important part to any company and it should apply to packaging. Without striving for quality, the tone of company is set for lack of controls. Without any controls, companies have minimal influence in what is acceptable or what is not acceptable. For instance; if company A requires a container to place a product in for shipping, while company B may not require a specific type of container while others may specify a certain type. If there are complaints or issues about the type of container being used from customers, company B has no support where company A has a standard set in place and has influence.

Quality varies from company to company depending on value of product. The key importance of quality packaging is to ensure what is purchased, created, or specified is met. If packaging does not meet the quality standards it may lead to other issues within the company beyond packaging.

Research & Development

Research & development educated and eager to solve your packaging concerns

To be a leader in cutting edge technology in any industry companies must invest the time and financial resource to be considered a cut above the standard. For example; well known technology companies did not start off without any knowledge in their industry otherwise they would of have folded a long time ago. If they did not have the knowledge at the time for the industries they wanted to be a major player in, they either brought employees in to conduct research and development or contracted outside firms.

Without a robust research and development program, businesses may be putting their livelihoods at risk. By not being current with the trends in their industry, there is a possibility for companies to have “tunnel vision” and have a great innovation pass them by when presented. In recent times, numerous firms have had to either adjust financials, reduce work forces, or close doors all together because of lack of R&D.

Do not let this happen to your company! Pack Protocols works with their clients to assist them with all their Packaging Research and Development needs and wants. PP diminishes the unknown when it comes to Packaging R&D.

Supply Chain

Supply chain educated and eager to solve your packaging concerns

The supply chain system is usually complex for virtually all companies. The supply chain needs to be visible to the appropriate parties or there is a risk products may not get to the end user. Countless firms mistakenly believe once the product leaves the firm’s location, the product is no longer under its jurisdiction.

Like it or not, packaging is part of the modern day supply chain system. When distributing or launching a product takes place there are many factors to take into account. From shipping configurations, transportation mode, routing, shipping environment, and customs/government all are aspects in successfully making a product launch flawless.

If firms are not aware of these characteristics of the supply chain system, a normal day of business may become chaos. Similar to packaging; supply chain is one of the most important parts of a business relationship, but is seldom recognized for its efforts because it’s assumed to be understood.

A rational example of supply chain complexity is someone sending out a birthday gift to their loved one via the post office. The loved one’s birthday is tomorrow and the distance from the giver to the recipient is 100 miles. The giver assumes the gift will be provided on time. Not so fast. Although the recipient is 100 miles away, the post office has to send it over 400 miles to its distribution center to get it to the recipient. The chances are very slim the recipient will receive it on time.

The situation described above is a classic case why knowing your supply chain is vital to anyone who is moving an item from point A to B. It’s not as simple as it may be perceived.
